Saint Louis County Police arrest suspect in attempted assault

ST. LOUIS (KMOX)  -- Saint Louis County Police are looking for a suspect that allegedly struck a police car during a routine traffic stop.

Police Sergeant Norman Mann tells KMOX officers from the North County Precinct made a routine stop at Chambers and Empire around two this afternon. When officers approached the car, the suspect reportedly backed up and slammed into the police car. Mann says officers were in fear for their lives and did fire shots at the vehicle. It's not known if the suspect was hit.

Saint Louis County Police tell KMOX the suspect has been apprehended.
