Big Bend bridge over I-64 reopens

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX)  -- The Big Bend Boulevard bridge over Interstate 64 will reopen to traffic by Friday evening's rush, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The bridge was closed June 1st, and completion of this project comes eight days ahead of schedule, despite an extremely rainy autumn.

"The Big Bend bridge reconstruction was very disruptive to the citizens and businesses of Richmond Heights," said MoDOT St. Louis District Engineer Ed Hassinger.  "We appreciate the patience of the citizens of Richmond Heights and all the commuters in the mid-county area."

Big Bend is the second-to-last bridge to be finished as part of the half-billion dollar I-64 reconstruction project.

The last bridge, Clayton Avenue, should open in about two weeks, and all lanes of  the "New I-64" will open to traffic prior to morning rush on Monday, December 7th.
