ST. LOUIS, Mo. (AP) -- A Rolla Missouri man was sentenced in federal court in St Louis to nearly three-and-a-half years in prison on federal charges of possession of child pornography. U.S. Attorney Michael Reap says 51 year old James May's prison time will be followed by a life time of supervised release.
May pleaded guilty in September to five felony counts of possession of child pornography. He appeared today for sentencing before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel.
Reap says the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
The goal of the initiative is to use federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
