Mother of accused boy says he was repeatedly teased

OAKVILLE, Mo. (KMOX)  -- The mother of a boy accused of assault tells KMOX there's more to the story.

The 7th grader at Oakville Middle School is under a ten-day suspension for an attack on a classmate in a school bathroom.

His mother says the incident came after days of repeated teasing, "He has a learning disability and this is a sensitive subject for him because he feels inadequate to begin with and for kids to continually tell him 'you're stupid, you're retarded" my son snapped."

She tells KMOX she had been in contact with the school about the other students, "We tried to get him to where he would walk away from the person saying things about him and he would go give that name and say what had happened."

She admits her son blew up, but says he shouldn't bear all the blame.  "My son told me a couple of weeks ago that he had thought times before that he would maybe hurt himself because kids keep talking about him."

She says she and school officials are working on ways to deal with the situation when he returns to class.
