ST. LOUIS (KMOX)  -- H1N1 swine flu shots are being offered starting this week in schools throughout the city of St. Louis.

The director of the St. Louis City Health Department Pamela Walker says they are getting more vaccine in and have sent out 40-thousand doses to 44 providers in the city -- and ten hospitals.   Now, it's time for the schools to get the vaccine. "There are 145 schools in the city, with 50,000 students, so it's quite an undertaking," Walker said. "We're going to start slow in the preschools and elementary schools and learn as we go. Hopefully, we'll have all of our kids vaccinated by Christmas."

Walker says the city is treating all the schools the same: public, private, parochial, independent or charter.   According to Walker, about fifty percent of parents have given permission for their children to get the vaccine.
