Mo. treasurer warns of unclaimed property scam

kmoxnews@kmox.com

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP)  -- Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel is warning people to watch out for e-mails telling them that his office may have some unclaimed property for them.

Zweifel says someone has been sending e-mails posing as an assistant state treasurer and attempting to obtain personal information so that unclaimed property can be returned.

He says his office never sends unsolicited e-mails regarding its unclaimed property unit.

Zweifel says the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Federal Trade Commission have been notified about the scam.
