Sheriff investigating stray bullet death thinks charges should be filed

bereker@cbs.com

OWENSVILLE, Mo. (KMOX)  -- The investigation into the death of a three year old Owensville Missouri girl continues, and the sheriff investigating the case personally thinks there should be charges filed.

So far , none have been filed against a man who was target practicing on the day three year old Allison Schneider was hit by a stray bullet and later died but Gasconade County sheriff Randy Esphorst told KMOX he has an opinion on whether charges should be filed:

"He was not firing into a berm or hill side or a bank of dirt so there is probably some negligence involved there," Sheriff Esphorst told KMOX.

The man in question was firing at a target nailed to a tree.

He is said to be remorseful and cooperating with law enforcement.  But the sheriff points out that ballistics tests aren't complete.  they have yet to connect the bullet and the gun to the death of Allison Schneider.

A trust fund has been set up for her family.   It's the Allison Schneider trust fund , in care of Legends Bank ,  P.O. box 508,  Owensville, Missouri  65066
