I had a couple of beers with a friend of mine on Tuesday night. My friend is a staunch Republican and like me has strong opinions on President Obama and the topics of the day. In the midst of our conversation, I found that both of us had slipped into passing back and forth political sound bites.
- Irrational people making comments when it snows like "What's up with Global Warming Now?" Yet they don't comment on the fact we are losing miles of the arctic on a monthly basis.
- President Obama proposing to make severe cuts in the space program.
- The fact that conservatives never talk about family values anymore?
- Is allowing a person to die or go bankrupt because they have no health insurance the moral thing to do?
- People who think Ronald Reagan should be on Mount Rushmore.
Today's surprise retirement announcement of Indiana Senator Evan Bayh has upped the ante for a GOP takeover of the US Senate later this year. The current 59-41 Democratic majority is now in real jeopardy. Saying Good-Bayh to the House of Lords means that former Senator Dan Coats is the clear front-runner in the Hoosier State and that the Republican resurgance is in full gallop!
Lost this week in the political frenzy of the Massachusetts US Senate race, was the passage by the Missouri House of Representatives of HCR 18 - a resolution denouncing big-government health care plans in Washington, D.C. Since Republicans hold a majority in the Missouri House, it is no surprise that such a resolution would pass. It's not even terribly surprising that several Democrats who are worried about their own reelection would vote for it. In fact, 22 Missouri House Democrats supported the resolution which has no binding effect whatsoever.
