Bethalto (KMOX News) -- A Wood River man is jailed in connection with the savage murder of his own father.
James Lane, 33, faces counts of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery and is being held without bond.
Madison County sheriff's officials say the suspect called them late Sunday night to report that he had just killed his father -- whose name was also James Lane -- at his parent's home at 7311 Harris Court in Bethalto.
The younger Lane allegedly struck his father on the head with a "splitting maul", killing him.
The suspect's mother was also struck but she was treated and released for minor injuries.
