EAST ALTON, Ill. (AP) __ Olin Corp. is moving a military ammunition packaging unit from its East Alton plant and laying off 87 workers, the latest in a series of changes for the company. Company spokeswoman Valerie Peters says the move will done in several phases. The final decision was made in February. The Clayton, Missouri-based company notified officials with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity earlier this month that it is moving operations to Oxford, Mississippi. The job cuts go into effect June 30. The plant in East Alton employs approximately 1,400 people. Last year, the company sold its metals division a private equity firm. In 2005, the company shifted its headquarters from East Alton to Clayton, Missouri. |
