We missed peak leaf season by a week, but regardless, my fall foliage tour with Holiday Vacations and KMOX listeners was a blast, with beautiful scenery, great food and wonderful company.
We started the trip with two days in Boston, where we immersed ourselves in colonial and Revolutionary War history. We took a side trip to Lexington and Concord and the John F. Kennedy Library too before heading up through Rockport and Gloucester to Ogunquit, Maine. In Maine we stayed at a gorgeous hotel on the ocean and ate lobster.
A day in New Hampshire’s White Mountains was lovely, with bubbling mountain streams and crisp fall temperatures. A resort in Lake Morey, Vermont, was the final stop for my sister, Ingrid, and I before we had to leave the group to head home. With young kids at home, five days was our limit. But our new friends went on through Vermont and down to New York City.
I’d never taken this type of a vacation before but loved it and feel blessed that our group was full of fun, happy people whom I hope will keep in touch!
Thanks to Barb and Ed Juettemeyer of Maryland Heights (thanks for all the laughter!); Beau and Ann Downing of Spanish Lake (our back of the bus friends who were lots of fun); Sue Weeks and Nancy Cusanelli of Fenton (best friends since high school and so nice!); Susan Colony of St. Louis (who impressed me endlessly with her energy and spunk!); Lyle and Juanita Reuss of Belleville (who were full of great stories); Jerry Rothermich of St. Peters and Rodney Rogger of Belleville (you guys still crack me up); Ed and Joan Sebaugh of Sedgewickville and Billy and Willie Mae Young of New Madrid.
