KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Jackson County prosecutors say a Kansas City man was arrested after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl in what he considered an arranged marriage.
Twenty-three-year-old Vincent Mosby was charged Sunday with one count of statutory rape and is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Court records show that Mosby signed a marriage contract and paid a dowry in a religious ceremony in August. The marriage is not legal because state law does not allow it without a judge's order.
Police say the girl's mother and stepfather arranged the marriage because they thought she was going to be sexually active with a boy her age.
Court records say some relatives who objected to the arrangement called the police and took the girl to protect her.
