John was born in Southern California. He graduated from Camarillo High School in 1966 and went on to Ventura College, where he studied business law. He was a musician in a local group known as the "Henchmen" playing the local clubs and the Los Angeles area for about 3 years. John become interested in radio and began his career as a DJ at KUDU in Ventura, CA. He worked his way up the ladder moving to bigger and better radio stations until he reached his goal of being in New York Radio where he did afternoon drive at WXLO, which at the time, was the most listened to FM Radio Station in the United States. He moved to St. Louis in 1980 and hosted the afternoon drive show on KSLQ/Y98 for 21 years.
John's lifelong dream of becoming a pilot was realized in 1982 when he got his private pilot's license. He then went on to earn his instrument, commercial, instrument ground instructor and multi-engine ratings. After leaving Y98 he became First Officer on a corporate jet for Triton Boats. When the opportunity to fly traffic for KMOX came along, he jumped at the chance. He formed his own corporation, JML Aviation, purchased an airplane and went to work as a traffic reporter on the Voice of St. Louis.
Now, with 40 years in broadcasting and over 6,000 hours logged as a pilot, he can be heard reporting traffic on KMOX mornings and afternoons. |
