Granite City Honor Student Injured In Botched Stunt Dies
Granite City (Associated Press) -- A Metro East honor student critically injured when he fell
from a car during horseplay Tuesday night has died.
Police say 18-year-old Granite City High School senior Matthew Evans playfully belly flopped onto the hood of a friend's passing car, prompting the driver to instinctively slam on the brakes.
That's when Evans fell off and hit his head on the pavement.
Granite City Police Major Jeff Connor says there's no criminal activity involved, and that the case is a lesson for people to be careful.
Evans was scheduled to graduate Friday night.
