Boonie Hat Bandit Runs Bank Robbery Total To Nine

St. Louis County --    The man dubbed the "Boonie Hat Bandit" by authorities is now believed to be responsible for nine bank robberies in St. Louis and St. Charles counties since last November.

And the suspect continues to make chameleon-like changes in his appearance, even as he runs up his bank robbery total.

Surveillance camera images from a pair of bank robberies Monday show a clean-shaven, hatless man wearing a business jacket over a button-down shirt with no tie.

He's described as 6 feet tall, in his mid-40's, and wears glasses.

In the past, the suspect had worn a camoflaged, floppy hat often referred to in the military as a "Boonie hat".

However, media coverage appeared to make the suspect switch to different hats and various other disguises in later robberies.

On Monday, he robbed the Commerce Bank on Clarkson in Chesterfield just before noon, then the Bank of America in St. Peters shortly after 2 pm.

The FBI's offering a reward for information that will help them catch and convict the bank robber, and any information can be called in to the St. Louis FBI office at (314) 231-4324, or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-TIPS.
