Belleville Blast Survivor Faces Attempted Murder Charges

Belleville (KMOX News)  --    A Belleville man who was critically injured when his house blew up earlier this month is now charged with trying to kill himself -- and his family -- in the blast.

Prosecutors are charging 44-year-old Gary Smith with two counts of first-degree murder for deliberating setting off the explosion during a domestic dispute, hoping to kill himself, his wife and their daughter.

Smith is also accused of trying to prevent his wife and daughter from escaping the home right before the blast, but they were able to get out in time.
